Everything You Need To Know About The New Years Kiss Quilt

Welcome to my very first pattern, the New Years Kiss Quilt! This quilt holds a very special place in my heart, not only with it being the first pattern I've ever designed but also it celebrates my boyfriend and I's 5th year anniversary that took place on NYE ‘20.

Because of the ‘complexity’ of the design, there are only two sizes offered, a large throw and a crib size.

The throw size is broken down into five sections, and the crib consists only of the first 3 sections; sparing you over 160+ HSTs! :)

I Rated This Pattern As Advanced Beginner/Intermediate Level Because Of A Couple Of Things:

  1. It builds off of each other from the center outwards- if your seams are a hair off in the beginning sections it may lead to other issues throughout the rest of the quilt. Don’t let this scare you away! The pattern will guide you through how to create each section accurately using a scant or 1/4" seam allowance. In fact, if you were looking for a project to help you work on your seam allowance this is the perfect project!

  2. It uses a lot of different techniques throughout the entire quilt. If you're still a beginner but this isn't your first quilt then this is a great chance to combine and learn a lot of different fun techniques! None of the techniques are difficult, but if they're new to you, you may find the quilt to be challenging as a whole. Here are a few of the skillsets learned in the pattern:

  • Flying Geese - 4-at-a-time method

  • HSTs - both 8-at-a-time and 4-at-a-time methods

  • Economy Block

  • Chain-piecing

  • Strip piecing
